Study Finds LASIK Safe For Severe Myopia

Patient Advocacy Issues Advisory to Prostrate Patients Considering ...

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Patients who are using Flomax for treatment of prostate enlargement and are considering Refractive Lens Exchange -- an alternative to Lasik laser eye surgery -- need to notify their eye doctor they are taking or have taken the drug, according to the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA, http://www.usaeyes.org/ ), a nonprofit patient advocacy.

"Our advisory relates directly to a recent joint statement from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Urological Association (AUA) that raises concerns for cataract patients," says Glenn Hagele, Executive Director of CRSQA. "Refractive Lens Exchange is exactly the same as cataract surgery and the same concerns apply.

International EyeCare Laser Center Presents Lasik Forum in Houston ...

"There are three reasons why people won't have lasik done: fear, fear and fear," says Dr. Moore. "We are trying to remove that element through better understanding of the procedure."

Following a short video, the doctors will take questions from the guests. They will then take the audience on a tour of the facilities including the lasik suite, where surgery is performed. The guests will also have the opportunity to meet the rest of the staff and gain more information on the overall procedure.

A pioneer of lasik (laser in-situ keratomileusis) in the United States, International EyeCare Laser Center is the only private practice in Houston exclusively dedicated to laser vision correction. Dr. Moore is a frequent speaker and published author on the topic of lasik and has performed thousands of refractive procedures since 1979.

New laser may widen scope for eye surgery

New techniques in laser eye surgery could eliminate night vision problems and other undesirable side-effects of the treatment, enabling thousands more people to put aside their glasses and contact lenses.

The latest high-speed, high-precision lasers and iris recognition technology can provide customised procedures to replace the previous "one treatment fits all" approach, resulting in an operation that produces 20/20 vision or better, ophthalmologists say.

The innovations improve the popular LASIK (Laser in Situ Keratomileusis) method of eye surgery, which is used to correct sight and astigmatism – problems resulting from an irregular-shaped cornea.

While this treatment can correct mild sight impairments for the majority of patients, those with more severe problems or natural fluctuations in the shape and thickness of the cornea can be considered ineligible for surgery because of the risk of complications.

A Lighter, Defter Touch

Although LASIK remains the laser eye surgery of choice, in the past few years, more eye surgeons have been performing a procedure called photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). In some cases, they are turning away from LASIK entirely, say experts.
